IBAS is committed to providing our students with the best tools to excel at learning!

IBAS’s Centre for Learning Excellence (CLE) provides students with various learning resources to assist students throughout their studies. The CLE offers students: tutoring, study skills and academic writing support through applied workshops to individualized support.

Tutoring Sessions

Schedule a tutoring session

to receive help and guidance on completing course assignments.

Whether students are in the diploma, bachelor, master or doctoral programs they can avail to tutoring sessions regarding any of the courses.

Book a tutoring session for online or onsite at IBAS main campus or at one of IBAS’ Campus Partners around the world.

Campus Thalwil Students can reach out to the relevant professor, or On-Site Operations Manager to schedule a tutoring session. 

For Tutor sessions with Learning Centers please contact your learning center directly.

Tutoring Cancellations: If a student must cancel a tutoring sessions the student is asked to inform the tutor one (1) day before the scheduled tutoring session.
Availability: Campus Thalwil strive to always help students, but may not always be able to accommodate individual tutoring sessions. 

Special Needs Accommodation

The Centre of Learning Excellence has the following accommodations available upon the request of students or faculty:

  • sign language interpreters for students who are deaf
  • computer text-to-speech computer-based systems for students with visual impairments or Dyslexia
  • extended time for students with fine motor limitations, visual impairments, or learning disabilities
  • trackballs and alternative keyboards for students who cannot operate standard mice and keyboards

Workshops

By filling out the form you request for a workshop to be scheduled. A minimum of 5 students must register for a workshop to be scheduled. Workshops may proceed as Webinars to allow students from IBAS Learning Centers & Online students to join.

Studying Tips

Along with classes and assignments, many students must juggle work, social life, and family obligations. Poor time management can cause anxiety and procrastination, while effective time management reduces mistakes and stress. Join us to learn time management skills to help you plan your studies and your life.

In this workshop, we will cover eight (8) strategies to smarter learning by using active learning strategies.

Avoiding Plagiarism

Plagiarism can be an intimidating concept for many students. Everyone wants to prevent plagiarism, but it can be unclear what exactly plagiarism is and how to avoid it. In this workshop we will focus on avoiding plagiarism through effective paraphrasing and quoting.

In this workshop, students will learn the purpose of an APA Style reference list, how to identify and fix common reference list formatting errors. It is recommended that students should bring a reference list of their own to work on. The list can be one for a current or past assignment, and it will not be shared.

Academic Writing Skills

In this workshop we will cover the basics of scholarly writing. This includes learning what scholarly writing is and the characteristics that make up successful scholarly writing. You will practice identifying strong scholarly writing and learn how to develop a strong scholarly writing process.  This workshop is recommended for students new to scholarly writing or are a returning student.

In this workshop, students will become familiar with the writing process by visualizing it at various stages, from brainstorming to the final draft and reflection. Students will learn six steps of the writing process and tips for each step.

In this workshop, we will discuss various strategies to brainstorm ideas and gather your thoughts, all in preparation for writing your paper. These strategies will help you avoid writer’s block and make your writing process as efficient as possible.

An essential component of academic writing is a thesis statement. Join the workshop to solidify your knowledge of thesis statements with a focus on practicing creating your own thesis statement.

In this workshop, we discuss the role of a paragraph in an academic paper, learn a strategy for paragraph organization and practice evaluating paragraph(s).

In this workshop, we will highlight two essential aspects of any paper: the introduction and the conclusion. What is an appropriate way to introduce your main topic? How should these paragraphs interact with the rest of the paper? We will answer these questions and more, exploring several examples and discussing tips for successful introductions and conclusions.

In this workshop, we will discuss the revision process in all its forms, including explaining the difference between proofreading and revising, how to revise on your own and how to revise using faculty feedback.
